Our Customers: Neptune Software
How Neptune Software modernized subscription licensing with SLASCONE
Neptune DXP is an enterprise app development platform for SAP and open technology environments.
As Neptune’s business model evolved toward subscriptions, the company needed a more flexible software licensing foundation for offline scenarios, fine-grained feature control and future monetization models.

Main Task
Migration from an in-house licensing mechanism to a subscription-ready licensing platform with controlled activations, online/offline support and future pay-as-you-go capabilities.
Connectivity
Online & Offline
From basic license checks to subscription-ready licensing
Before SLASCONE, Neptune Software used an internal licensing mechanism that covered the basics, but became increasingly difficult to manage as Neptune moved toward subscriptions.
In a perpetual licensing model, this limitation was manageable. In a subscription model, license validity, renewals, controlled access and customer-specific entitlements became central to the commercial process.
This was especially important for Neptune DXP Open Edition, where customers may run the software in different infrastructure environments, including restricted or offline scenarios.
Why Neptune Software chose SLASCONE
A key requirement for Neptune was offline capability. Many enterprise customers operate in environments with limited or no internet access, strict allowlisting rules or highly controlled infrastructure setups.
SLASCONE allowed Neptune to support these scenarios without requiring customers to install and maintain a separate local license server. At the same time, the API-based approach made the integration straightforward across Neptune’s different technology stacks, including SAP-based environments.
Neptune also integrated SLASCONE into its internal business processes. Trial and customer licensing workflows are connected to Salesforce, while contract and subscription information remains aligned with SAP.
The result: More control, more flexibility, more automation
With SLASCONE, Neptune Software now has a licensing foundation that supports both today’s subscription model and future monetization scenarios.
Neptune can control license validity, enable or disable product capabilities per customer and support different packaging models more easily.
A particularly important next step is Neptune’s first pay-as-you-go component based on the number of users. This was not possible with the previous licensing setup. With SLASCONE, Neptune can move beyond fixed license quantities and prepare usage-based licensing models where actual usage can be measured, reported and monetized more flexibly.
This opens the door to customer scenarios where the final user volume is difficult to predict in advance. Instead of forcing customers into a fixed model from the beginning, Neptune can support licensing that grows with actual adoption.
In short, Neptune Software can now protect licenses more reliably, automate licensing workflows and create new monetization options without adding licensing infrastructure on the customer side.
Behind the curtains

Offline licensing without additional customer infrastructure
Neptune needed to support customers with restricted or offline environments. SLASCONE enabled this without requiring customers to install and maintain an additional local license server.

API-based integration with Salesforce and SAP
Neptune integrated SLASCONE into its existing business systems. Salesforce opportunities can trigger trial license workflows, while SAP remains connected to contract and subscription handling.

Flexible entitlement and feature control
Neptune can now enable or disable specific tools and capabilities per customer. This supports more flexible packaging, beta feature rollout and customer-specific commercial agreements.
